The latest trend in the fashion field: carbon fiber 3D printed shoes

Some time ago, OFweek 3D Printing Network reported some news about the popularity of 3D printed clothing. Nowadays, more and more fashion designers are trying to use 3D printing technology in their creation, and constantly test the possibilities and limitations of 3D printing in terms of technology, materials and style. For example, footwear designer Silvia Fado is working with 3D printing company HXX to print some special shoes with carbon fiber 3D to challenge the limits of this technology.

Fado is more concerned about new technologies and engineering, in large part because she used to be an architect. Although she eventually devoted herself to fashion, inevitably, the shoes she designed often reflect an architect's consideration of structural factors.

After learning the traditional craftsmanship of shoes in a second-place shoemaker in her second hometown of London, she completed her master's degree in fashion footwear design at the London College of Fashion.

Fado likes to think about design from the relationship between body movement and fashion or sneaker design. The tools and techniques she often uses include traditional manufacturing processes to high-tech technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting and CNC machines.

Her latest design was designed for the South 36.32n fashion festival in Cadiz, Spain, known as CARBONALISE, which is the result of her studio's collaboration with 3D printing company HXX. These works were developed using carbon fiber, so they are both light and have high strength. And these 3D printed shoes are not cheap, Fado said the custom CARBONALISE is priced at up to 1,000 euros.

“Many fashion footwear designs often sacrifice functionality for fashion. This project adds some of the basic elements of sports footwear to the design of high-end fashion shoes, which are often based on functionality and durability. This is a common lack of fashion footwear," Fado said. "I have been analyzing the comfort elements of footwear, especially shock absorption, weight of shoes, grip (the relationship between shoes and the ground) and durability. Sexuality, etc. I am trying to turn these ideas into a part of the high-end women's high-heeled shoes design."

It is understood that this series of shoes also considers the influence of internal movement on its structure. Fado and his engineers have developed various mechanisms to deal with these movements, including the use of springs, rubber balls, pneumatic hydraulics and metal rings, etc. Carbon fiber is used.

However, Fado's shoes also use a lot of traditional craftsmanship in the manufacturing process, such as leather making process, traditional machining, metal processing and wood forming technology.
