Function and function introduction:

First, the composition of the work

The device is shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2 below (see attachment). It is composed of power supply, switch, surface light screen, hand wheel, polarizer (two pieces), transparent glue sticking polarizer and so on.

Second, the experimental operation

First, the switch is closed and the light screen emits a white surface light source.

Next, the polarizing plate of Fig. 2 is placed left between the light panel and the polarizing plate of Fig. 1 and stuck.

Then, the hand wheel on the back of the device is rotated, and the polarizing plate in Fig. 1 is rotated to observe the phenomenon.

Again, take the polarizing plate that was placed and replace it with the polarizer in Figure 2.

At last. Turn the handwheel again and observe the experimental phenomenon on the front.

Third, the role and function of the work

1. Using scientific comparison methods to improve students' ability to sum up

There are different phenomena in the placement of different polarizers in this work, as shown in Figure 2, polarizer left and Figure 2 polarizer right, the former can demonstrate polarization, and the latter can demonstrate color polarization. After comparing these two experiments, students can summarize the differences between polarization and color polarization. Moreover, the comparison of these two experiments not only pays attention to the study of the university's optical color-developed polarization content, but also ignores the review of the physical polarization phenomenon in high school. The students' learning is smooth and natural.

2. Aesthetic education - causing students to feel the beauty, thus actively forming a strong interest in learning

In the course of the experiment, this work shows the phenomenon that the color of the colorful pattern changes with the rotation of the handle. This phenomenon has caused students a strong and intuitive feeling, which has caused students to think about why such a beautiful pattern appears. What is it? The principle is that there is a strong interest in the content of the chapter on the polarization of learning light.

3. Stimulate students' curiosity about material properties

The materials used in this work are all common materials in life. The amazing phenomena demonstrated with these materials will stimulate students' curiosity about the properties of materials (especially computer LCD, outer film, transparent plastic) to varying degrees. Moreover, the liquid crystal material is the content of the university physics "Photoelectric Information Technology" [1] course, which can link "optical" with "photoelectric information technology".
