On the development and application of pre-coating technology

[Review]: Approaching the pre-coating film: the mainstay of the coating technology

[Extended]: A brief introduction to the technological process of pre-coating film

[Extended]: Detailed description of the structure of pre-coated film and the characteristics of pre-coated film products

[Extension]: On the difference between the pre-coating film and the immediate coating film coating process

In the 1950s and 1960s, BOPET (biaxially stretched polyester), BOPP (biaxially stretched polypropylene), BOPA (biaxially stretched nylon) and other film products were born one after another, which quickly led to the transformation of the packaging material industry. This was born. The solvent-based instant coating technology was invented by the United States in the late 1950s. The solvent-based instant coating glue blended with benzene solvent was applied to the film by using special instant coating film equipment. Laminating technology for printed materials. The film-covered packaging is beautiful and durable, so that the solvent-based instant coating technology has been rapidly promoted.

Waterborne instant coating technology came into being in the 1970s

In the 1970s, developed countries' awareness of environmental protection and the management of environmental issues gradually increased. Because the benzene solvent used in the solvent-based instant coating technology will cause serious damage to the health of producers and consumers, there is a hidden fire hazard in the processing workshop, and the degree of importance paid by developed countries to its harm is increasing. Water-based instant coating technology emerged at the same time in Europe and the United States. This technology is based on the original solvent-based instant coating technology, using water-based glue to replace the organic solvent glue, thereby reducing the pollution caused by the solvent-based instant coating technology. Since then, it has been rapidly promoted and entered China in the mid-1990s.

Successful development of pre-coating technology in the late 1980s

In the 1980s, with the birth of laser phototypesetting technology and offset printing technology, the printing industry ushered in a revolution and entered the era of high speed, automation, and information. Post-press processing requirements are more exquisite, and market demand for printed products has shifted from the original long version to the short version. Due to its own technical bottlenecks, traditional instant coating technology has low lamination efficiency, high energy consumption and low quality, which makes it difficult to adapt to the lamination requirements of printing technology, especially digital printing technology. In 1989, the US GBC company responded to the needs of printing technology changes and successfully developed the pre-coating film technology, creating a new era of post-press laminating technology. The pre-coating film does not need to do any gluing process on the film during the coating process, the operation process is simple, only need to be heated and pressurized by a special coating machine.

In the 1990s, pre-coating technology began to be widely used in the world

Once the pre-coating technology was launched, it was rapidly promoted in the United States. In 1996, the United States achieved a comprehensive replacement of pre-coating technology to instant-coating technology, and its current market share has reached 95%. Since Europe is the birthplace of water-based instant coating technology, the promotion of pre-coated film was slow at first, but its market share has steadily increased in recent years, and it has reached 65%. Japan and South Korea began to promote pre-coating films in the 1990s, and the current market utilization rate has reached about 70% and 50%, respectively. At the same time, the lamination of digital printing products became possible and gave birth to the commercial printing lamination market.
