A nylon-MXD6 developed by Mitsubishi, known for its high barrier properties, is a polycondensation of metaxylylene diamine (MXDA) with adipic acid. The barrier properties of nylon-MXD6 can be further improved by nanotechnology - nano-sized clay minerals are stripped in the matrix. The MXD6 nanocomposites are reported to be twice as much as the unfilled resin to block carbon dioxide gas and 2-4 times that of oxygen. The resin can be coextruded with other barrier resins such as nylon 6 and PET.
