DuPont Engineering Plastics PBT for switch panel processing

A new type of safety system from Sibecx, France featuring front splints from DuPontTM Crastin® PBT (polybutylene terephthalate). This system is used for quick and easy installation of optical switches and sockets. Polyester resins were selected for their functionality and compatibility with DuPont's color and precision reproducibility.

Because the appearance of the interchangeable sockets and switches can be improved through changes in colors and styles, Evolutys' was selected as a front splint that can capture interest or home ownership from color and style. The plates can be molded from DuPont's Crastin PBT polyester resin and decorated with the sublimation printing technology developed by French partner DuPont, Lons-le-Saunier. Sublimation printing through the material of about 0.2 to 0.3mm, can make the decoration high wear and scratch resistance, and thus for semi-crystalline plastics such as Crastin. In addition, the patented dye carrier in the DuPont process can be smoothly adhered to the front plate without wrinkling to produce a highly precise pattern.

"This cost-effective method of placing mature multicolored pictures, photos or styles on 'Evolutys' products can help us increase product added value," said Hosni BenCheikh, development manager at Sibecx. "Sublimation printing can have almost unlimited impact on the Crastin board."

An unfilled, super-tough, and flame-retardant Crastin material is used in the production of front cleats, and this requires multiple steps of assembly and disassembly. This material was selected for its rigidity, toughness, heat resistance (up to 1600C at sublimation) and abrasion resistance.
