Analysis of new environmentally friendly gravure ink for flexible packaging

Since the 1980s, China's plastic flexible packaging industry has developed rapidly, promoting the continuous updating of food, daily chemical and pharmaceutical product packaging. The intensification of the industrialization process has brought more environmental problems. Governments of various countries have formulated policies that require better protection of the environment and natural resources when developing the economy. People's increasing awareness of environmental protection and sanitation safety has made our requirements for plastic flexible packaging more stringent, especially the requirements for hygienic safety indicators, such as the toxicity of solvents, residual amounts of solvents, heavy metal content and other indicators.

Although the flexible packaging gravure printing industry provides people with packaging bags with different functions, the volatilization of a large amount of organic solvents also brings serious negative environmental impacts. At present, in China's flexible packaging gravure inks and dry compound adhesives, aromatic hydrocarbons, ester ketones and volatile organic solvents are used in large amounts. The printing industry generally believes that only by improving the environmental pollution in the process of gravure printing can long-term guarantee The gravure printing industry will further develop, otherwise it will face the possibility of elimination.

In the future, water-based plastic inks will definitely replace the organic solvent inks currently used. However, in view of the current characteristics of water-based inks and the status of China's existing printing machinery and equipment, the large-scale promotion of water-based inks on plastic flexible packaging will take time. Water-based ink uses water as a solvent carrier, and the evaporation rate is slow, which requires the printing machine to have a stronger drying capacity and blowing and exhausting ability; due to the chemical action of water, the components in the printing machinery that contact with water need higher resistance Corrosion and rust resistance, such as plate roller, doctor blade, ink pump, etc. Therefore, compared with current toluene-based inks, alcohol-soluble inks are easily accepted by the environment, which solves the environmental damage and damage to human health caused by the use of toluene, as well as the high boiling point of aromatic hydrocarbons and easy Retentivity results in a large amount of solvent residues in the printed matter and odor, which affects the actual printing problems of the package contents.

New alcohol soluble surface printing ink

At present, well-known manufacturers in the food industry are all optimistic about the beverage and liquid milk market, and have successively launched related production lines, but the cost of paper-plastic composite brick packaging is high, which cannot meet the development needs of fast-food and popular liquid milk packaging. Under the pressure of competition, food companies began to pay attention to the reduction of related auxiliary raw material costs. Packing milk and other contents with PE co-extruded film as the base material can not only achieve a shelf life of 7 to 30 days, but also greatly reduce the packaging cost. It is against this background that liquid flexible packaging has developed rapidly, driving the rapid development of surface printing inks for printing liquid packaging. Most of the plastic gravure surface printing inks on the market use polyamides or modified as connecting materials. This type of ink is used for polyethylene films. The ink layer has good adhesion fastness and good gloss; but polyamides The inks generally have performance defects such as poor water resistance, oil resistance, and freeze resistance. The use of this type of ink in high-temperature printing in summer is prone to stickiness and softening, and in the low-temperature printing in winter, freezing will occur. Liquid packaging is subjected to high temperature sterilization or freezing during post-processing such as filling, circulation and storage. Therefore, the inherent defects of polyamide-based surface printing inks cannot meet the requirements of liquid packaging. Chaolifu 313A ink uses polyester (modified) as the binder, has alcohol solubility, water resistance, boiling resistance, anti-hydrogen peroxide sterilization properties, fundamentally improves the defects of polyamide surface printing inks, and eliminates the packaging bag The content pollution factors ensure food hygiene and flavor. The ink is mainly used for high-pressure polyethylene film, such as liquid packaging, export packaging for daily necessities, etc. At the same time, it can be used for BOPP (heat sealable) surface printing, making high-demand biscuit packaging. In addition, due to its good high temperature resistance, it has been successfully used in Tetra Pak beverage packaging.

New type alcohol soluble compound ink

When the packaging bag is printed, the ink or solvent used contains toluene. Since the boiling point of toluene is above 110 ° C, it is impossible to completely volatilize during the printing and compounding process, so it may cause odor residue in the packaging bag. In the past, color printing manufacturers specializing in the production of milk powder packaging spent a lot of money and material resources to control the odor problem of packaging bags, such as the introduction of high-speed machines and the use of quick-drying solvents, but they still cannot fundamentally eliminate the problem of solvent residue. Chaolifu 303LV alcohol-soluble compound ink is developed and designed for the packaging of medicines, high-grade puffed foods, etc. without odor residues. It is mainly used for the compound printing of PET film and NY film. The packaging structure is such as PET // AL ) // PE, PET (NY) // PE and other pharmaceutical, puffed food packaging. The ink does not contain benzene solvents, and alcohol ester solvent is used as the diluent. The resin releases the solvent well, and the residual solvent is very low after printing. The specific test indicators are shown in Table 3 and Table 4.

When using 303LV ink, alcohol-soluble or ester-soluble adhesives can be used, and the compound strength of the two adhesives can meet the actual requirements of packaging bags. However, alcohol-soluble composite ink is best used with alcohol-soluble glue to achieve the best composite strength, while ensuring that the amount of residual solvent in the packaging bag is kept to a minimum. If an ester-soluble polyurethane adhesive is used, it may bring The residue of ethyl ester was eliminated. Through the compounding of different adhesives, the compound strength test of 303LVI ink is shown in Table 5.


Environmentally friendly ink is the only way to achieve green printing. Alcohol-soluble and water-based inks can significantly reduce environmental pollution, protect the health of printing workers, and promote the development of printing to non-toxic operations. China has now begun to formulate relevant packaging laws and regulations, so that the hygienic safety requirements of food packaging are in line with international standards.
